I got a new rod today, finally something I can use to cast big wind-resistant streamers to big trout. So I got a seven weight medium action that handles those conditions well.
Well I biked to the river at a new area to test it out. This area was a shallow sandy area and a couple pools down I hadn’t had a single strike nor seen a single fish. Maybe that had something to do with the wind and sun, pretty much the worst conditions for sea trout and browns. Well I headed up a muddy tributary and cast to a couple pools. A little ways up my six-inch articulated streamer was slammed by a beautiful twelve inch brown. The colors swere amazing on the fish, and the streamer was about half the length of the fish!
After that I headed home in freezing winds but happy after a nice outing with a new friend.
